| On Friday I was out (in drab) with a few friends who don't know about Karol. At one point a female friend of mine was chatting to me about my current fruitless search for gainful employment, when she said "God, I wish you were a girl".
My immediate reaction was to say "So do I" but thankfully I managed (for once) to bite my toungue. She then went onto explain that shes putting together a promotion and needs another girl to work on a stand.
At this point someone jumped in with "Well we could always pop you in a dress". Which was just one comment too many for my ego (and the drink) to let slide by, and so I found myself rather grandly announcing to the entire bar that "I look rather fabulous in a dress!"
Everyone had a giggle and the conversation moved on as my female friend had to leave at that point. But of course this was bugging me for the rest of the evening, as I was wondering if it was a subtle(ish) hint to let me know she'd worked it all out.
So on Saturday, I popped around to see her and told her all about my life as Karol. She was completely surprised but her reaction was lovely, in fact, she was a total star. And now I find myself with a job working on a makeup stand at a wedding fair! Well, I guess I do use enough of the stuff! ;o)
Of course unlike the fantasist scenarios which Gillian mentioned in her blog, this is the real world baby. So I'm a little nervous as its a totally new arena for me, but I'm determined not to let her down. Wish me luck! |
