I've just read one of those articles where I found myself thinking "That's it exactly!!"

It was an interview with Julia Serano, author of "Whipping Girl: A Transsexual Woman on Sexism and the Scapegoating of Femininity". I've had Whipping Girl on my bookshelf for an age now, its a book I tend to dip into from time to time.

Although I found the books observations at times a little bleak and disheartening, for some reason I found the interview uplifting. Primarily because Julia eloquently explains some of the experiences which I've tried to understand and put into words myself.

I should also point out that theres a fair bit of the article which covers areas which I have zero experience or knowledge of, so I'll not comment on those bits.

But her explanation of objectification was a eureka moment for me. Its something I now realise I've experienced constantly over the years. What surprised me is that its something I've often observed in the interaction of others but I was obviously totally clueless when on the receiving end myself. Now I understand whats happening, I feel I'll be better able to challenge it the next time it occurs.

So if you've read some of my blather recently and wondered what on earth I was on about, have a read of Julia's interview.

She talks a lot of sense, shame she isn't the sort of transexual that gets much media exposure.

Sometimes I wish I was born a straight man, or a woman. It's not that I want to be either, and am unhappy with what I am, just that everyone else would be, or at least disinterested.

As it is I just keep gently pushing the boundaries, waiting for that adverse reaction that sets me back a bit.
