| Well I never thought I'd mention football on here.
But I've been taking a break from the social scene in London over the last month, and I haven't actually had any adventures as such to report on. Instead I've been doing some naval gazing while pottering around my home town in Yorkshire. Rather unexpectedly its actually been a lovely break from the chaos of London, and a chance to reacquaint myself with old friends and family.
And so I found myself in the pub yesterday with some friends watching England play football. Now I've never been interested in football, my friends often tease me about it because I really haven't a clue.
Its not the result of some stereotype "women don't like football" thing. Neither my dad or my brothers follow football either, boxing and rugby were the sports on the TV when I was a kid.
So one of my friends had a big grin on his face when my girlfriend asked me what "offside" meant. But much to my own surprise I did actually manage to explain it, and I was even more amazed when she commented "well that doesn't seem so complicated"!
My friend did have the last laugh though, when he pointed out that it had taken me about half an hour to try and explain it.

Its been rather an unusual month. Being around old friends in my home town, starting to see a new girlfriend, not doing any of my usual socialising as Karol.
None of it was planned, things have just kind of worked out this way. And it actually felt a bit odd to start with. Over the last 3 or 4 years, I've spent so much time emulating a woman, I think I'd forgotten there was a guy in there somewhere.
I always point out to people that I'm the same person however I'm dressed, my personality doesn't change. But with hindsight I can see that it definitely took me a little adjusting to rediscover the dynamic of being a guy. That different qualities, a different physicality even, were needed.
Of course I'm still Karol, that won't change, but I think I may have addressed the balance a little. We shall see... |
